Dear Mom & Dad... From Zane

Because we're counting down the days until CURTIS, I thought it would be interesting to get the Walker brothers to share with us some of their memorable moments. In talking to them, I asked them to write a letter to their parents, recalling one or more of those moments. You've already seen the letters from Travis, Sawyer, Kaleb, Brendon, Braydon and Ethan, which means there's only one left. And if you ask Zane, he'll tell you that we saved the best for last.

Letter from Zane Walker

Dear Mom & Pop,

So, I'm sure my brothers have reminded you of all the mischievous things they've done, but I'm also betting they left out all the things they did that they blamed on me. In my defense, I am the youngest and I had six older brothers who molded me into what you thought was a trouble maker.

Sure, I can name a couple of times when I might have been at fault. Like the time I stole a whole display of gum from the store and when Mom found it, I told her Beau did it. Of course, Mom told me she called the police on Beau and that they were going to take him to jail. I eventually confessed because I couldn't have Beau going to jail for my crime. So, not all bad.

And maybe the time when Sawyer and Travis were helping Pop fix something on the roof and I stole the ladder and wouldn't bring it back.

Those were minor things, though. I can think of others that weren't my fault.

For example, what about the time when Kaleb put my bicycle in the tree. I think he said something about me leaving it in front of the door and he tripped over it or something. (I doubt that was true). I had to get Pop to get it down for me. Kaleb's fault.

Or what about the time when Ethan convinced me that elevators were going to eat me and that if I ever got in one, I'd never get back out. We had to take the stairs for a while after that. Ethan's fault.

Also, the time when Braydon and Brendon put the snow machine in the school cafeteria. I took the blame for that one. Then again, that was a brilliant idea. Still, that was the twins' fault, not mine.

And the time Sawyer convinced me that I had poison ivy and the only way to get rid of it was to cover myself in Caladryl lotion and not wear clothes. I was pink. And naked. It just so happened to be the day that the ladies from church were coming over for lunch. That was Sawyer's fault.

Truth is, THEY were the trouble makers and I was the scapegoat. Yep, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. But don't worry, I fully intend to corrupt my nieces and nephews to pay my brothers back for all the damage they did.

Love you tons,
Your favorite son Zane

Dear Mom & Dad... From Ethan

Because we're counting down the days until CURTIS, I thought it would be interesting to get the Walker brothers to share with us some of their memorable moments. In talking to them, I asked them to write a letter to their parents, recalling one or more of those moments. Each day you'll see a new letter from one of the brothers. I hope you enjoy!!!

Letter from Ethan Walker

Dear Mom & Pop,

I'm going to start this out by saying that I was the good kid. The quiet kid. The one who didn't get into anything. Yes, I'm smiling while I write this. And no, maybe I wasn't the quiet one, but I wanted you to believe that I was. And sometimes it worked.

I think you'll remember the time when I was going to build the biggest, best fire in the fireplace. Before I started (and roped Zane into helping me), I asked permission. So, I did it the right way. However, no one told me that I couldn't keep adding wood so technically it wasn't really my fault. But, aside from nearly burning down the house, the best part was when Pop got irritated at the smoke detector and rather than trying to put out the fire (which was definitely getting out of control), he was more worried about making the alarm stop. That was the greatest.

Oh, and I'm thankful I didn't burn down the house. I'm sure you are too. And thank you for continuing to love us no matter what damage we did. Love you!

Love,
Ethan

Dear Mom & Dad... From Braydon

Letter from Braydon Walker

Dear Mom & Pop,

It's sometimes hard to think back on all the things we did as kids, all the trouble we caused. But that's only because I forget which was my fault and which was Brendon's. For the record, most of it was Brendon. I was the good twin and he was a bad influence. (I know you believe that)

There are two big things I remember. The first was the time when Brendon and I decided to have a roman candle fight in the backyard. You remember that, right? When we used metal trashcan lids as our shields and shot the fireworks directly at one another. I think we were thirteen. God, that was fun. It was a wonder we didn't burn down the barn.

And what about the time when he and I got in a towel fight. It started out we were popping each other. When we grew bored of that, we soaked the bath towels and threw them at each other. In the house. I remember Pop sitting in his recliner, yelling at us. He finally stopped hollering so we kept right on going. Then the minute Mom walked in the door we knew we were in for it. I think there are still water spots on the ceiling from that day.

Yep, I think it's safe to say that the two of you have earned the parents-of-the-century award for all that you've endured over the years. But through it all, you managed not to throttle us. Sometimes, I'm not sure how. Love you guys!

Love,
Braydon

Dear Mom & Dad... From Brendon

Letter from Brendon Walker

Dear Mom & Pop,

When Nicole asked me to come up with a memorable moment, I have to say, I was worried. Only because I wasn't sure I could think of just one. There are so many great ones to choose from. But, I'm curious, which one is your favorite?

I remember the time when Braydon wouldn't give me something that I wanted. We were like six at the time. I kept pulling him around by his arm until I pulled it right out of the socket. Of course, I felt bad at the time, but the funny part came when he couldn't walk because of it. His injury had nothing to do with his legs, but for some reason he thought he couldn't walk. Luckily, the doctor got that sucker right back where it belonged and his legs worked again. Ha!

Or, what about the time when I carved Braydon's name into the bathroom counter? Remember that? I wanted him to get in trouble. Wait, now that I think about it, maybe you didn't know that was me. Never mind. That was really Braydon.

Regardless of all the crap we put you through, I hope you know how much we love you. Me especially. I love you the most.

Love,
Brendon

Dear Mom & Dad... From Kaleb

Letter from Kaleb Walker

Dear Mom & Pop,

Let's just say that I hope Mason and Kellan don't figure out a fraction of what we did as kids. I have to give you guys props for managing to keep us in line as much as you did. I can remember so many times when Pop was ready to string us up by our shoelaces. Fun times!

I think the time I remember most was shortly after Pop had finished painting the kitchen. I remember wanting to help, but he told me I'd have to wait until I was a little bit older. He said the paintbrush was too big for me. So, rather than argue, I fished out Mom's fingernail polish and proceeded to paint the wall in my bedroom. And the carpet. And my leg. I then invited you both to come check out the masterpiece.

Something I might've left out of that story was the fact that Sawyer showed me where the fingernail polish was. He even helped me to pick out which colors to use.

Sometimes I wonder how y'all made it.

Love,
Kaleb

Dear Mom & Dad... From Sawyer

Letter from Sawyer Walker

Dear Mom & Pop,

I wish I could say that all of the stunts I pulled happened as a kid, but we'd all know that wasn't true. I'm sure you remember the signs because... Well, because those moments are definitely unforgettable.

However, when I think back to my childhood, there are a couple of moments that definitely require some reminiscing. Like the time I shot my BB gun in the house and I actually shot a hole through the refrigerator. You have to give me credit because you didn't actually find that one until months later. That magnet, combined with Travis's report card worked quite well at covering up the crime scene.

Or how about the time when I decided I was going to go live with Grandma? I packed my bag,
hopped on my tricycle and y'all let me get at least a mile away before Pops came and picked me up, set me and my tricycle in the bed of the truck and brought me back home. The best part was when he got me out, put me on the ground and I took off again. Thought I'd teach him. Funny how I was the only one of us that was out of breath.

Lots of fond memories, Mom & Pop. I thank you for every one of them. Love you both!

Love,
Sawyer

Letter from Travis Walker

Dear Mom & Pop,

While I sit here trying to think of all the crazy stunts we pulled as kids, I think of so many things.
I've shared these stories with Kylie and Gage a few times as well and I always get the same looks. The one that says, "I don't doubt that at all." You'd think we were rowdy or something.

The one thing I remember most is back when Sawyer was in kindergarten (maybe first grade) and we both had to stay home from school because we were sick. I convinced him that the police were going to come get us because we were skipping school and since it was illegal to skip school, we needed to hide. Well, technically, I told him that he needed to hide. You were quite upset with me at the time because he fell asleep in the dryer and I forgot about him. Now that I think about it, I guess it was a good thing I hadn't turned it on.

And yes, I know we caused you to pull your hair out from all the crap we pulled, and now that I've got a rambunctious rugrat of my own, I feel your pain. I also love you for it.

Love,
Travis
